Studio Space

Vintage letterpress printing press

The Press

The center of the studio is the letterpress. A vintage machine, maintained and adjusted for consistent operation. The press applies controlled pressure, transferring ink from type to paper with precision.

Type cases with organized letters

Type Storage

Type cases line the walls, organized by font family, size, and style. Each case holds individual letters, numbers, and punctuation. The organization allows quick access during composition.

Paper storage and cutting area

Paper & Cutting

Paper is stored flat, protected from light and moisture. Different weights and finishes are organized for easy selection. A cutting table provides space for trimming and preparing sheets.

Ink and printing materials

Ink & Supplies

Inks stored in airtight containers. Rollers, brayers, and mixing tools organized for efficient workflow.

Linocut carving tools and blocks

Carving Station

Tools for linocut work: gouges, blades, and cutting blocks. Work surface designed for safe, precise carving.

Drying racks and finished prints

Drying Area

Space for printed pieces to dry fully. Racks and flat surfaces accommodate different sizes and drying requirements.

Workspace Organization

Organized workspace

Efficiency Through Design

The studio layout is designed for workflow efficiency. Each tool and material has its place, reducing time spent searching and allowing focus on the work itself.

Natural light during day hours provides accurate color perception. Evening work uses focused task lighting that illuminates without creating harsh shadows.

Work in progress

Active Workspace

The studio is a working space, not a showroom. Tools show signs of use, materials are organized for access, and the environment supports the creative process.

This functional approach ensures that the space serves the work, not the other way around. Everything is arranged to facilitate the printing process.

Studio atmosphere

Atmosphere

The studio maintains a quiet, focused atmosphere. The rhythm of work is methodical and attentive, allowing for the concentration required for quality printing.

This environment supports both the technical precision needed for printing and the creative exploration that informs our designs.
